It Has Arrived...
Got the HP Reverb G2. It kind of sucks that I now see that its price has dropped to 399)…if only I waited a bit longer. Oh well. At first there were too many points of failure to know initially why I felt the experience was kind of jank (higher-end laptop specs but still not a desktop, ssd with os is connected via usb c), but after sorting some things out (software updates was the biggest one actually…), it seems pretty good.
(Note for other gaming laptop users: if you’re getting error code 1-4, switch to dedicated graphics mode to disable your igpu, that was what fixed that issue for me. If you’re getting error code 13-14, just replug your usb c and make sure you dp is connected properly – these were my solutions to my problems)
Controller tracking is alright, initially I felt frustrated by how it felt a lot worse than the HTC Vive tracking with the two external lighthouses, but I think I’ve gotten used to it and will only continue to get more used to it; it is definitely usable. Interesting how the two controllers are using double AA batteries instead of a built rechargeable lithium ion batteries, but then I realized built in batteries would be a lot harder to replace after they have lost a noticeable amount of full charge capacity from the charge and recharge cycles it would go through over time.
