Blogs
I have had the great fortune to have time to myself to read without needing to work (soon coming to an end).
There are so many great blogs out there that I would like to recommend them here as well. I’m sure they come up before mine ever does, but I would like to express that you’ll feel great relief in reading things that others have written that just make sense to you. It makes feel just a bit less lonely, and that is a godsend for people like me. This feeling is described better here.
There’s still more to read, but I think if you have the time to spare, give them a try:
- Slate Star Codex
- Astral Codex Ten
- Less Wrong
- Paul Graham’s Essays
- Geohot’s blog
- Vitalik Buterin’s website
- Gwern Branwen’s Website
- Wait But Why
Being in a pretty new generation, I notice that online people also frequent sites like Reddit, 4chan, or hackernews if you’re into tech as well. Sometimes I wonder if it’s even good for me to read these things, because I feel more ostracized from my local communities and the people here when I do. Some will say then I’m hanging out with the wrong crowd, but I’m not so sure. I don’t want to give up on “my” people.
I just want to make sense of the world with friends, why is growing up so hard? I know I’m not thinking too much, I just haven’t read and thought enough to make sense of things. Satisfaction and relief are on the other side of work. Giving up the desire to desire is stupid. The vicious cycle is not one that you want to escape because there’s nothing for you on the other side - desire is what makes you you - and so I justify my continual consumption of reality as I know it. Let’s play!
